Description: Alderley Farm is set in an isolated countryside setting near Wotton Under Edge requiring
special status planning permission. The construction is in the style of a Queen Anne country residence. The property consists of impressive four storey living accommodation incorporating a basement and attached
indoor swimming pool, gym and outdoor courtyard area. Also as the property is set in the trough of a valley, extensive storm water flows from upstream pass under and over ground to the rear of the property
causing very wet ground conditions, which needed addressing. To deal with the saturated ground conditions a large specially designed land drain was installed incorporating flows from the valley and from
the storm drains of the new buildings. Specialised software was used to calculate the field run-off storm flows from the adjacent valley. All storm flows connect in new drains to a stream via a new balancing
pond. Foul discharges were taken to a pumping station (required due to the basement depth) then into a bio digester with an outfall into the main storm drain.
This construction consisted of careful
underpinning of an adjacent building to a depth below the new basement. The new frame was of reinforced concrete "flat slab" floors with supporting columns, masonry wall panels and a steel framed roof. CNM
kept a close watch on site as the works proceeded to ensure that the design requirements were met by the main contractor and specialist RC Frame contractor.
